Comment on participation
Notice what your child actually does: “You spotted the red bus,” or “You looked carefully at that picture.” A warm response makes space for trying without making every answer a measure of success.
Offer an invitation
Ask “Would you like to choose a card?” or “Shall we look at one more?” Give your child room to say no. If they make a guess, you can model the word naturally: “That is a zebra. It has stripes.” Avoid repeated demands to say it perfectly.
Keep mistakes ordinary
When an answer is incorrect, show the object or picture again and explain briefly. You do not need to turn the moment into a correction drill. Return to an easier, familiar word if your child seems discouraged.
End on connection
A small conversation or shared laugh is a good place to stop. CDE Flash Card can supply the material, while your encouragement and attention shape how the session feels.
