Follow your child’s attention
There is no single session length that suits every child. Start with a small number of cards and stop while the activity still feels pleasant. A few attentive minutes can be enough for one session. Age, mood, tiredness and the time of day all affect how long a child wants to participate.
Make the session easy to repeat
Choose a natural moment, such as after breakfast or before a story. Show a few cards, say the words clearly and allow a little conversation. If your child wants to talk about one picture, spend time on it. You do not have to finish a set just because you started it.
Know when to pause
Looking away, walking off or asking to do something else can simply mean the child is ready for a change. End warmly: “We can look again later.” Avoid adding more cards to recover their attention. On busy days, skipping the session is fine; begin again when it fits your family.
Keep preparation light
An organised digital library such as CDE can make it easier to pick a topic without sorting or carrying physical cards. The parent’s role is to share the moment and respond to the child.
